Spring in the air for International Women’s Day
There’s belly dancing in the east and drumming in the north. In fact there’s art, music, dance and food happening in halls and community centres all over town as women gather to celebrate International Women’s Day this weekend. For women in Leith the place to be on Saturday is The Halls in Henderson Street and Dr Bells Family Centre in Junction Place.
When we dropped into The Halls in Henderson Street a few days ago with a poster to promote our own women’s event, Who Cares for the Carers, on Saturday 14 March we found a hive of activity as June Dickson and Marsine Kousarieh were preparing for tomorrow’s joint celebration with Dr Bell’s family centre.
All women in Leith are invited to a day of creative activities starting at 10 am with therapies and refreshments in Dr Bell’s and 1pm in The Halls, Henderson Street for belly dancing displays, pupet shows, painting and jewellery workshops.
Marsine pinned up our poster and smilingly handed us a bunch of flyers, “Perhaps you can spread the word about our event on your travels,” she said. So we did.
Happy Women’s Day everyone.
I would like to thank you Fay and everyone who helped make Leith’s International Women’s Day a success.
Congratulations. Really pleased to hear it was a success, can’t help feeling there is a new sense of confidence in women’s projects. Looking forward to lots more happening.
